- A Pomona man was injured yesterday afternoon on Route 202 near the intersection of Orchard Street in Suffern when the rear wheel of his car came loose and the car went out of control and struck a tree. William Stanton, 71, of Camphill Road, was removed from the car by Ramapo and Suffern police and taken to Good Samaritan Hospital by the Ramapo Valley Ambulance. Stanton was admitted to the hospital with head injuries and hospital authorities listed his condition as "satisfactory" this morning. The accident occurred at 3:47 p.m. Ramapo police said Stanton was driving a 1951 Chevrolet sedan north on Route 22 when the left rear wheel came off. Although he tried to keep the car on the road, he finally lost control. The car crossed the southbound lane, went off the west side of the road, knocked down about ten feet of hedge and smashed head-on into a tree on the Kruchmeyer property. Ramapo Patrolmen Lester Teicher, Edward Manion, and John Callan investigated with an assist from Suffern Patrolmen Donald Dowson and Howard Pierce. The car was towed from the scene.
