 | 1886 Nora Ludlum elopement IS IT AN ELOPEMENT?
NEWBURG, N. Y., Jan. 30. -- Goshen is stirred over what seems to be an elopement. About a month ago Miss Nora Ludlum, an attractive 19-year old girl, left her father's home there for a visit to her sister, Mrs. Baird, at Warwick. She remained there until a few days ago, when she suddenly disappeared, leaving no trace of where she was going. The missing girl's father, John Ludlum, is strongly of the opinion that she has joined George Carr, a married man of 25, and who left Goshen for the Arkansas Hot Springs in October last for the benefit of his failing health. When Carr left he took with him $290, which he drew from the Goshen Savings Bank, and left there a balance of $600. When his wife tried to draw the money a few days ago, she learned that the latter amount also had been drawn. Officers have visited New-York, Philadelphia, Newark, and other cities in search of the twain, but without avail. When Miss Ludlum was visiting with her sister the latter states that she would walk a long distance to the Post office to receive her letters, which are supposed to have been from Carr. The latter is slightly under medium height and stoutly built. Miss Ludlum is of medium height and graceful figure. Carr's wife will sell her household treasures and furniture and will reside with her brother in New-York. She received letters from her husband up to the time of the disappearance of Miss Ludlum, since which time she has heard nothing from him.
