18-2 MAHAB CARPENTER TIMOTHY (1) / ELIZABETH ANDERSON
b. ca. 1758, probably in Dutchess Co., N.Y.
m. WILLIAM STANTON
STANTON Issue: Probably born in Rensselaer Co., N.Y. [Brian: probably not]
84. WILLIAM b. ca. 1782
85. BENJAMIN b. ca. 1784
86. CARPENTER b. ca. 1786
87. STANTON b. ca. 1788
MAHAB was devised 5 shillings in accordance with her father’s will, dated 12-4-1787 and probated 2-15-1806. NO mention of this WILLIAM STANTON is found in the STANTON Genealogy; family tradition records his son BENJAMIN probably was the grandfather of EDWIN STANTON, President LINCOLN’S Secretary of War. Research on the STANTON genealogy does not substantiate this family folklore. [Brian: agreed]

Daughter ELIZABETH married a ROBERT BLOOMER of Rye and had issue of six sons and two daughters. ROBERT BLOOMER’S will was executed September 29, 1776 and probated December 23, 1783. Therefore, the ELIZABETH who married our TIMOTHY was not the daughter of ISAAC and PRUDENCE ANDERSON, but most likely their granddaughter, the daughter of ISAAC, JR.

TIMOTHY and ELIZABETH removed from the Portchester/Rye area ca. 1741 to the Little Nine Partners Tract, Dutchess Co., N.Y. The children were able to enjoy the school advantages for which that area was noted. TIMOTHY and family removed farther north into Albany County (now Rensselaer County) probably to escape harassment by the British. In 1774, he rented Lot #166 in the SHEPHARD Patent at Pittstown. The following year, 1775, he purchased same from ABRAHAM J. LANSINGH of Stone Arabia, Albany Co., N.Y. The lot consisted of 256½ acres with buildings thereon. Deed of record is on file in the County Courthouse at Albany in Book #10, page 122. Pittstown became part of Rensselaer County in 1792 when that County was formed from parts of Albany and Washington Counties.
ELIZABETH was a granddaughter of ISAAC and PRUDENCE (WOODWARD) ANDERSON of Rye, N.Y., and most likely the daughter of ISAAC, JR. Some old records give her birth as 1714, but later data contained in the Addenda (p. 347) of reference 10 gives 1718 and that she died in 1802. Subsequently, STEPHEN |

broken up and the younger daughters went to Oswego to live with the married sister. John Wood acquired the title of captain from being a captain of several lake vessels plying between Kingston, Ontario and northern points.
Gidney Wood lived near Willow Hollow. He married Philena Stanton, born in 1778, died Feby. 16th, 1850. Their only child was Capt. Isaac Wood, who was married to Harriet Cropsey by Rev. His widow married Jonathan Belknap, jr., who was born June 13, 1759, and died Oct. 29, 1814.
Jonathan Belknap, jr., and Philena Wood Belknap are buried in the Belknap burying ground on Silver Stream avenue, near the Newburgh and Cochecton turnpike. In the southwest corner of the same ground are the unmarked graves of Capt. Isaac Wood, Harriett Cropsey Wood and Julia Cropsey.

 | 1808 David Vance Murder of Benjamin Staunton [Page] 224 TOWN OF NEWBURGH
...
1808, May 25. On Saturday Inst the body of Mr. Benjamin Staunton, noted to have been drowned in a previous paper, was found in the Hudson River about one mile above the village. A coroner’s jury was immediately called and on examining the body, it appeared evident, that the deceased had come to his end by violence. On examination of the testimony it appeared that the deceased and David Vance had been fishing in company the preceding night and no other person with them. The coroner’s jury, after sitting two days unanimously pronounced that Staunton was murdered by Vance, who was committed. Index.
